A Work In Progress – Please Visit My New Site

I have been working on the process of changing from a hosted site to a self-hosted site. A process of more time than work. At this point my new site that can be found at www.jeffscurlock.com is up and running.  All of my post are at the new site. So far I haven’t been able to move comments or followers. I hope to be able to do that next time I have time to work on it.

What I need you to do is this. Go to the new site at www.jeffscurlock.com and follow me again. There is an email sign up form at the top of the right hand column.

I will be in touch with additional information concerning the moving of jeffscurlock.com to a new server.

Two Steps Back May mean One Hundred Steps Forward.

My blog is hosted at wordpress.com. WordPress.com is a great place for hosting all kinds of information and I highly recommend them for anyone who just wants to put information on the internet for free. There are some limitations and those limitations are affecting some things I want to do with my site in the future. I won’t go into all of that now.

What I will tell you is that I’ve come to understand that I have to move my site from wordpress.com, which is hosted, for free to worpress.org. The good news is that at wordpress.org I will have more freedom as to what I can do and accomplish with my site.  The bad news is….

  • At wordpress.org I will have to arrange my own hosting which will involve a monthly fee.
  • All the good stuff that wordpress.com did for me like backing up my site, protecting me from spam and overall maitinence will now be up to me.
  • And the worst part is two fold.
    • I have to move everything from wordpress.com to wordpress.org.
    • I may loose my subscribers and have to start completely over. I’m not sure about that part yet.

Sometimes life growth requires that we first go backwards. It’s like pruning a tree. It looks sad and barren but within a few months it has grown beyond where it was originally.

So I have to take a step back. This will be my last post for a while. I don’t know how long it will take me to get the new site up. It could be anywhere from a few hours to a few days. Next time I do an update it will be at my new site.

The new site will look very similar to this one and you will find it with the same http://www.jeffscurlock.com.

Five Lifestyle Qualities That Guarantee A Blessed Life

I must begin by telling you that the best book I’ve every read is called The Blessed Life, The Simple Secret of Achieving Guaranteed Financial Results by Robert Morris. If you haven’t read it, you should. Follow the this link to find the book.

Why is it that some Christians seem to be overwhelmed with blessings on their lives while others can’t seem to get a break? The Bible is full of answers. The Bible is also full of antidotes for your problems.

Take for example the very first Psalm and the lessons that it teaches us. Those are the lessons that I’m sharing with you and the five-lifestyle qualities that guarantee a blessed life.

Number One:  Don’t follow the life leadership of people who reject God.

Verse 1a: Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the Ungodly.

I’m not talking about being a good employee when the boss is not a believer.  I’m talking about letting the wrong people have access to your life.  So let me ask you. Who has access into your life? Whose opinion means something to you? What kind of media influence do you have in your life? Internet, television, magazines, books, music, etc., etc

Number Two.   Don’t follow the example of those who have rejected God.

Verse 1b: …..nor stands in the path of sinners. Who are you most impressed with? Who in the world do you wish you were the most like? Who are your hero’s?

Number Three, Be careful how you use your tongue.

Verse 1c:….l nor sits in the seat of the scornful. What kind of conversation do you get the biggest kick out of? Do you gossip and talk about people in a negative way?  Do you use your social media to spread rumors, attack others character or to air out your own dirty laundry?

Number Four, Delight In the Word of God.

Verse 2a: But his delight is in the law of the Lord.   Have you fallen in love with the Word of God? Remember: Before you can fall in love with something you have to get    to know it. You will not fall in love with the Bible, the Word of God if you don’t spend quality time with it.  There are no blessings if the Word of God is not part of your solutions.

Number Five, Make Living your life God’s way an all of the time priority; day and night.

    1. 2b:… And in His law he meditates day and night.
    2. Put God first.
    3. Pray about everything.
    4. Ask God what His will is.

The Results

  • You will be strong and healthy, spiritually, emotionally and physically.

Verse 3a: He shall be like a tree planted by rivers of water.

  • You will be fruitful in season.

Verse 3b: …that brings forth it’s fruit in it’s season. Life is comprised of seasons. Good and bad, dancing and mourning. planting and harvesting.Don’t give up before you season of fruit get’s here.

  • You will not give up when going through the hot trials of life.
  • Verse 3c: … whose leaf also shall not wither.
  • Whatever you do will prosper.

If you have a problem with anything in this post your complaint is with the Bible and not me. I believe in the Word of God and in what it says. You can live this blessed life.

I’d love to hear from you.

If you haven’t done so you might want to read Christians and Alcohol and A Pastor and A Beer. Part 1 First.

A few weeks ago I did a post that I called A pastor and a beer. Two things came out of that post. Number one it was my highest viewed post of all time. There is lots of interest in the subject. Number two it turns out to be controversial, especially if you are being critical of the use of alcohol by Christians and especially Christian leaders.

Hopefully you have read at least two of my previous post; the first being Christians and Alcohol and the second, A pastor and A Beer.

I am all about grace and the new covenant. I’m thankful that there is now no condemnation (Romans 8:1).  Thank goodness that we have a better covenant. “But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises.” Hebrews 8:6

I’m trying my best to make this subject one of example and witness and not one of heaven or hell, sin or righteousness.

Alcohol is a controversial subject even in secular circles and is blamed for a lot of bad things in society. Please go back and read Christians and Alcohol.

My point with A Pastor and a Beer (part 1) was why? Why would an influential pastor who has never been a drinker, not in High School, not in college, suddenly decided that alcohol is going to be part of his life? And then decide that he needs to tell the whole world like it’s some sort of a badge of honor that he’s proud of.

Yes we have a new covenant but even the apostle Paul dealt with the subject of doing things that are not necessarily wrong but are a bad example, things that would cause a weaker Christian to stumble. Go read 1 Corinthians 8.

We do have a covenant of Grace, however we (Christians) have been called to a higher standard. Not because we want to make it to heaven but because we represent the Kingdom of God and want to bring glory to Him and not our liberty.

I know this subject is controversial but I do want to know what you think. Please comment on this page by clicking the comment button below.

How to Stay Married a Long, Long Time. Part 4

Please Subscribe to this blog. The RSS feed button is at the top and the email subscription form is in the right hand column just below my picture. Thanks!

If you haven’t done so, I recommend that you go back and read parts 1-3 first.

Again I must make sure that when I say marriage you know what I’m talking about. Marriage is a union between one man and one woman.

#1 In my last installment I told you that #1 was having a Christian marriage and make sure that Jesus Christ is the Lord of your lives.

#2 Grow Up! Felicia and I married very young (seventeen and nineteen) and had to grow up together. However I’ve seen people get married in the fifties and struggle because of immaturity. Here are some bullet points of immature things that will hinder a marriage.

  • If you always have to have your own way.  If you are a selfish person who must have your own way then DON’T GET MARRIED!  If you can’t give into the desires of another person, even if it’s not what you want to do then DON’T GET MARRIED.  If these traits describe you and you are already married then you have only two choices. Live in a bad marriage or grow up. Some say that marriage is 50/50 but that is seldom the case. If you want your marriage to work. If you want to stay married a long, long time then there will be many days when you are going to have to give it all when your spouse is giving nothing.
  • If you think you know it all.  I hate to tell you this but no one knows everything and any person can learn from any other person. If you spouse doesn’t have the opportunity to have an opinion and be heard your marriage is in trouble because of immaturity.
  • Pouting! Can a person be any more immature than when they are pouting? We all have to process hurt feelings and it may take a few minutes or a couple of hours. If however you think your going to get your way by pouting for days…. GROW UP!

Growing up is hard to do but extremely necessary for a successful marriage. Felicia and I had a rough time those first couple of years just trying to become adults together. Now thirty-three years later we are still in the process. Marriage is always a work in process.  “Until death we do part.”

So You Really Believe that Stuff About God Having A Plan For Your Life?

Please follow my blog. The RSS feed button is at the top of this page. The email subscription is to the right. Thanks!

I thought God had a plan for my life? I keep hearing that from preachers and I keep believing it but where is the fruit of it? It’s a question that people have asked me numerous times.

This morning a friend of mine and I were discussing this very topic and I heard myself saying that God’s plan is not a destination, it’s a process. Wow! That’s the truth. Don’t get bent out of shape with God because things are not going your way. God does have a plan and if you have surrendered your life to His plan then right now you are there. You are in the middle of His plan for your life.

To get to point Z you have to start at A and then go through every other step along the way. Do you have a problem with that?

Look at Joseph in the Bible. God gave him a marvelous dream. It was a dream of being a great leader, a dream of superiority. Then the process began. It started with a stay in a pit. Then he was sold to slave dealers. That doesn’t sound like superiority does it?  Did it mean that God had failed?  Joseph must have been complaining the whole time. Then he was sold at auction to the highest bidder and later found himself in jail. It was all part of God’s plan to get Joseph into the palace.

I’ve heard it said many time, “Wherever you are, be there.” It doesn’t mean you have to settle. It means that wherever you are know that God does have a plan and that no situation can derail that plan as long as you are willing and obedient. Remember, God’s plan isn’t a destination, it’s a process.

Are you struggling? Or what have you learned in your life about this process? I’d love to have your input right here at www.jeffscurlock. Click on the comment button below.
